about

Inspired by the asymmetric dance tunes of the Balkans, “Lyra’s Mad Dance” conjures the effortless joy of childhood reverie. The steady 5/8 pulse is both comforting and hypnotic, drawing the listener into a sonic fairy circle. The pump organ floats playfully atop the rhythm like a toy boat, while the guitars trace evolving chords, ephemeral as lapping waves. This live recording was made at the edge of the forest that inspired Adshusheer, the forthcoming record by The River Otters, which will include a “studio” version of the song.
